2009 Build Your Own PC Components: Processor CPU

www.mindbites.com Overview In this lesson, we’ll cover both Intel and AMD CPU Processors, what features and specs to look for when shopping, and how much you can expect to pay. The processor or CPU is the brains of the computer and does the majority of the PCs work. There are currently 2 major CPU makers, Intel and AMD. Intel has three families of processor, Celeron at the low end, Pentium in the middle and at the high end, the latest processor family, called Core. AMD also has three product families, Sempron at the low end, Athlon in the middle and Phenom at the top. Intel and AMD CPUs require a motherboard made specifically for them. The processor you buy will determine the type of motherboard you need for your system. See the motherboard component lesson coming up next for more on choosing a motherboard www.mindbites.com CPU’s connect to the motherboard through the cpu socket. Choose socket LGA 775, also called socket T for Intel and socket AM2, or AM2+ for AMD. Intel introduced a new socket type in November of 2008 called LGA1366, or Socket B. This new socket supports the new Core i7 CPU from Intel. AMD will introduce its new CPU socket, the socket AM3 in early 2009. Socket AM3 will support AMDs new CPU family that will compete with Intels Core i7 CPU. Thislesson is part of a comprehensive series of lessons created by Home PC Builder that will guide you through the process of building your computer (from the selection internal and external components through

Well, at least you’ll be energy efficient!

  5. hihi i got celeron 1.80ghz

  6. first, its core 2 and the latest cpu family is I7

  7. yeah it’s called the Intel Core i7 be cause it is based on the same architecture as the core2 duo so….

  8. no, go see on wikipedia… core 2 and core i7 is not the same (so…) he should at least placed the pentium to low-end, the core 2 to middle end (still excelent) and the i7 to the latest.
btw: i7 is a COMPLETE new architecture.

  9. But the Core 2 and Core i7 are in the same family!

  10. no, go check. its a new family

He’s right, it is a completely new family because of the new architecture. That being said the i7′s are amazing processors!

  12. Awesome video…except the narrator has possibly the most monotonous and boring voice I have ever heard.

  13. little bit old, the phenom 2′s are not in here.

This lesson is several months old so yes, the newest and greatest isn’t in here.

  15. AMD FTW

  16. ?!?…no this is a perfect voice for the content. not to mention a great heads up overview for a novice.

  17. LOL fuck intel man amd is the brains.I Love amd cause good performance good prices and its the brains.I mean THE brains.

What do you mean by the “brains” and you kind of sound like a fanboy!

  19. @audioslave1dude I mean that they made the stuff up and intel took it you dont have to be inteligent to do that. And by the way i am a little bit a amd fan but i also like intel cpus like the P4,I7,And C2d.But they are a little overpriced.

  20. audioslave1dude on January 24th, 2010 at 8:40 pm

Yeah your right Intel is expensive i don’t really care personally what you give me if can get the job done then there i go!!!

  21. @audioslave1dude Yeh same here thats why im more going for amd.You can get a phenom II x4 for half the price of a core 2 quad and it will beat the shit out of it litteraly.

  22. amd rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. panflutelistener on March 22nd, 2010 at 7:57 am

AMD is cheaper for a reason lol

You get what you pay for, if you purchased amd cause you couldn’t afford intel don’t bash on intel praising AMD please.

They are just different. One isn’t inherently better than the other. AMD has had better chips on the market than Intel many times.
